Simon Maas had 5 zussen. Twee van hen, Jette en Malia, zijn vermoord in Auschwitz, evenals zijn moeder. Vader Abraham Maas had een paardenslagerij die ook op zondag open was. Abraham overleed op 18 januari 1942 in Winterswijk, waar hij ook begraven ligt.
