Ellen Ruth en Olga Vera Haymann

Ellen Ruth en haar zus Olga Vera, rechts. Vera overleefde als enige van de hele familie op het Europese vasteland de oorlog. De familie emigeerde in 1923 uit Hamburg, Duitsland naar Amsterdam. Daar groeiden ze op als Nederlandse meisjes. Beiden gingen naar het Amsterdams Lyceum, zie de afbeelding van Ruth in het gedenkboek van de school. De ouders kwamen zowel uit zuid- Duitsland, Laupheim, Ludwig Haymann, als Noord-Duitsland, Hamburg, Gertrud Loeser. Ook in andere plaatsen leefden familieleden. De enige broer van haar moeder overleefde de oorlog in Groot-Brittanië. Hij zat al vroeg geruime tijd gevangen in Buchenwald, maar werd vrijgelaten. Dat gebeurde toen nog incidenteel. Hij, zijn vrouw en kinderen konden nog ontkomen naar Engeland.
