On 26 February 1814 King William I decreed that the Nederlandsch Israëlitisch Seminarium (NIS) was to be established in Amsterdam to train rabbis, teachers and other officers serving the Jewish community.
Arthur Cohen, the son of Abram Lazar, attended the NIS.
not survived. Studied dentistry after school and was first deported via Vught in 1942 and perished in Sobibor on January 30, 1944.
He is number 119 on the school picture.
