Lea Overste-van der Heide was een dochter van Asser van der Heide en Vogeltje Lelie. Ze groeide op met vier zussen: Adolphine (1894), Hendrina (1897), Regina (1901) en Esther (1907). Haar zussen overleefden allevier de oorlog.
