Leo Gompertz and wife Betty Isacson with their boys - Rolf, Fritz and Albert - taken while visiting Betty's parents, Isidor and Flora Isacson, at their home in Velsen / IJmuiden, Netherlands end of August 1939. They were joined by Betty's siblings, husbands, wives and children. On 1st September, Betty and her boys departed from Rotterdam for New York. Leo followed when his visa came through in January 1940. Isador and Flora were deported and murdered at Sobidor on 28 May 1943. The other members of the family in the photo fled, except for Herbert Isacson, who was deported to Auschwitz or Sobidor but survived.
We have been unable to determine whether one or more members of this family survived the war. While their names do not appear on the lists of survivors, we have not been able to trace them in In Memoriam either. They are therefore labeled as 'surviving' and their names are not listed.
