Benjamin Nieweg was a son of Levi Nieweg and Geertje van Zanten. He worked as a dealer in cattle. On 26 June 1903 in Appingedam he was married to Sophia Bamberger, a daughter of Meijer Mozes Bamberger and Mereltje Cohen. The couple had three children: Geertje, Meijer and Mietje.
