Sophia van Dam-van Hessen was al heel lang ziek. Ze werd steeds door de arts te zwak bevonden om naar Westerbork te worden gestuurd. Uiteindelijk is ze per ambulance naar Westerbork vervoerd, om van daaruit naar Sobibor te gaan.
