My mother, Alice Schappell, was born July 31, 1920 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She came to the U.S. in 1948 and left her past behind, including her Jewish religion. My brothers and I were raised as Christians and never knew that our mother was a survivor of the Holocaust. I have done research and learned she was arrested June 30, 1944, sent to Westerbork, then to Auschwitz, then to Kratzau in a labor camp until she was freed in May 1945. I am interested in learning as much as I can about her past.
