The period 28 August till 12 December 1942 was the so-called Cosel-period.  So called because of several transports with deported Jews, also from Begium and France, at the Cosel station, located ±80km west from Auschwitz, boys and men who were fit for work according the Germans, were unloaded and forced to work in the surrounding camps. Those, who remained in the train, were sent to Auschwitz.

In those period, the German Organization Schmelt  fetched about 9000 men from 39 trains to Auschwitz. They came from Belgium and France and 3500 of them came with 18 trains from Westerbork. Of the 9000 men, who were unloaded at Cosel, only 700-900 survived the war; of the 3500 dutch Jews 181, of whom 126 from the camp Blechhammer.

The freiht station of Cosel, the location were selections took place, has not really changed  after 1942. 2 September 2016 a memorial has been revealed by survivors of the victims.
