Jeannette Elekan, born in Amsterdam in 18t61, was a daugher of Jonas Elekan from Venlo (vinegar maker and keeper of a coffeeshop), and Leentje Polak. She married 27 August 1896 in Amsterdam Jesaia van West, a son of Philip van West and Sara Pais The coupel had no children.
Jeannette was the 2nd spouse of Jesaia van West, who was previously married to Wilhelmina Sluiter from Düsseldorf (also known as Wilhelmina Schlüter), who was a daughter of Heimann Schlüter and Sofie Ert. Wilhelmina had a sister Rebecka Schlüter (also known as Sluiter) who was married to Jacob Cohen, who passed away in Apeldoorn in 1941.
Jeannette Elekan had three other brothers, namely Jacob, who surivived the war and died in 1955 in Haarlem and Simon and Maurits. Both the latter were killed in Auschwitz and Sobibor. Jeannette self was registered in Westerbork 20 May 1943 and had to stay in barrack 55. On 25 May she was deported to Sobibor where on arrival there she has been killed immediately 28 May 1943.
