Heiman Leefsma was a teacher and gazan. Around 1940 he married Johanna Geertruida Zwarenstein. He had previously been married to Sara Hillesum, who died in 1938. The couple lived with their children at 9 President Steynstraat in Amsterdam. Some items of jewelry were stolen during their deportation.
Heiman and Sara had five daughters. Three of them survived the war.
Their daughter Elize was murdered with her family, as was Elize's twin-sister Jetty.
Heiman and Johanna's second child Benjamin Mozes Leefsma was murdered in Sobibor, their firstborn survived.
