Meijer Scharis was first married to Grietje van West. The couple had one child. Grietje van West died in 1917, after which Meijer Scharis got remarried to Hendrika Kiek. The couple had four children: Isidore, Lodewijk (stillborn), Nanny and Martha.
In 1930 the family moved from the Rapenburgerstraat 70 II in Amsterdam to Hilversum. During the war the family moved back to Amsterdam, possibly forced by the occupying forces. They settled at Weesperstraat 136 ground floor.
The child from the first marriage survived the war.
