De zogenaamde Sterbebücher van Auschwitz bevatten bijna 69.000 officiële overlijdensakten die tussen juli 1941 en december 1943 in het kamp zijn opgemaakt.
The Sterbebücher were published in 1995 (J. Debski (red), Sterbebücher von Auschwitz / Death books from Auschwitz, 3 vols, Staatlichen Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau, 1995) and can also be consulted on-line.
Only for persons who were officially registered in the camp, in most cases as a forced labourer, a death certificate was drawn up. For those who were murdered upon arrival a registration was not applicable. See for more information the following article.
