Erwin Elias woonde sinds 27 februari 1940 in Westerbork. Hij zat  in het eerste transport naar Auschwitz van 15 juli 1942. Hij behoorde tot de groep van 100 'Alte Lagerinsassen' van Westerbork die voor dit eerste transport werden geselecteerd.

Erwin E. was an agriculturalist (Landwirt) and lived in Berlin prior to emigrating to Holland. He is still in the Berlin Addressbooks as late as 1940 at Neue Königstr. 83 in Friedrichshain, and lived at Brunnenstr. 101 in Wedding at the time of the 1939 Census. (Berliner Gedenkbuch)
