Het echtpaar woont vanaf 1937 op meerdere adressen in Amsterdam. Daarvoor wonen ze in Zutphen en Winterswijk. Ze emigreren in 1937 uit Essen, Duitsland. Hun zoon Joseph Honij (Hony) weet de oorlog te overleven, in tegenstelling tot zijn gezin.
