Saartje was the daughter of Samuel van Meer and Hanna (or Johanna)van Baaren. She married in 1901 in The Hague to Izaak van Tijn, who died in 1936. Saartje and Izaak had four children. One child survived the war. The other three children were Alexander, Joël, and Louis. The Van Tijns were Cohanim.
